This study of the past enlightens us on the struggles and joys of marriage. Lyman struggles to understand marriage, his own and his grandparents’, and in this process, tries to enlighten Shelly about her own relationship. He tells his son, Rodman, “What really interests me is how two such unlike particles clung together, and under what strains, rolling downhill into their future until they reached the angle of repose where I knew them” (211). As Lyman focuses his writing, he discovers that he is writing about a marriage. Lyman, a retired historian, writes a history of his grandparents’ lives after his wife leaves him for his surgeon during his struggle with a debilitating illness. Wallace Stegner’s (1909-1993) masterpiece Angle of Repose (1971 Pulitzer 1972) explores the marriage relationships of Susan and Oliver Ward and Lyman and Ellen Ward and the free-love relationship of Shelly Rasmussen and Larry.

Lauded author of the Outline trilogy, Cusk returns with a stunning work about womanhood, self-acceptance, and the search for personal freedom. Second Place, the latest novel from Rachel Cusk, grapples with a woman’s desire to do both. Creators help connect people with something that has always been known, deep down, but could never accurately be expressed.īut the balance between living in the moment and creating art out of living is not an easy one to master. This notion alone presumes that the artist knows something the average person does not. Works of art become powerful when they can convey-or at least hint at-some kind of truth. I feel that the term eSports (rather than "online gaming", "professional gaming", "competitive gaming", or "pro gaming") carries with it a higher level of respect and reverence for the amount of skill, focus, and determination it takes to become professionally successful within the eSports community - as detailed by Andrejkovics in his book. However, after having read his eBook, it is clear that this name fits much better than other, conventional, titles. Prior to having found his account on Instagram I had never even heard of the term "eSports". Though I have never taken an individual interest in video games, I always find it fascinating to read and learn about topics outside of my realm of experience and knowledge, which was what piqued my interest most about this title. I, personally, am not a player of video games, yet (like most of us I'm sure) I know plenty of individuals who are highly dedicated to the gaming community at so many different, individual levels. In this book, he details - from first person experiences - the different skills, abilities, and states of mind that one must hold in order to achieve success in the eSport (more conventionally known as "online gaming") community. Nonfiction author Zoltan Andrejkovics was kind enough to send me an e-copy of his premier title The Invisible Game: Mindset of a Winning Team in exchange for an honest review of his work. about Reflections on the Principle of Unity/Oneness, Some, by Hooshmand Badee. In 1983, I was inspired by the message of the Universal House of Justice and got involved in Bahá’í social and economic development projects in Bangladesh as well as later on in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the West Indies with the aim of putting the grassroots population at the centre of activities. Bah Teachings on Economics and Their Implications for the Bah. The new title is Economics and the Bahá’í Faith. My doctoral research title is “The Bahá’í teachings on economics and their implications for the Bahá’í community and the wider society.” In 2018, a thesis to the book was completed. Hence, I did my doctoral research at the University of Leeds (the administrative part) in the UK in 2016. Abstract: Book-length compilation ordered by chapters covering 26 themes on the economy, welfare, development, women's employment, work ethics, morality, agriculture, extremes of wealth and poverty, profit-sharing, health and alcohol, consultation. It was this condition that fueled my passion for studying and researching the Bahá’í teachings on economics and exploring alternative solutions to tackle some of the challenging economic questions of our time. It was clear from my experiences and observations that such extremes and their effects on people’s lives are of great significance in understanding and redefining human well-being. Living amongst both the poorest nations and the wealthiest nations of the world for more than four decades, I witnessed inequality in the standard of living and a widening gap between the rich and the poor. As a young man he came to the United States, married and had a daughter of his own. The boy's grandfather died before he saw California again, but his dream lived with the child. "Bombs fell from the sky and scattered our lives like leaves in a storm." The daughter married and "sometime later I was born." The boy's grandfather often talked of California and planned to cross the ocean again. Only then did he go back to his homeland. With a wife and baby girl, he lived in America until his daughter was nearly grown. He liked California best and thought little of returning to his island homeland. In time though, he did sail to Japan, married his childhood sweetheart and brought her to America. He traveled through North America and was amazed by the deserts, bewildered by the factories and marveled at the mountain peaks and rivers. "My grandfather was a young man when he left his home in Japan and went to see the world." In too-large clothes and proper bowler hat, he found his three-week journey across the Pacific Ocean astonishing. On both East and West coasts and across the borders from north and south, people have sought the American Dream.Īllen Say's "Grandfather's Journey" is an American dream: three generations seeking that "other land," the promise of a home and contentment. It's been a cliche to immigrants for 200 years. I think that fantasy opens your imagination mind and heart to embrace fears and give you inner courage act with more power in the real /mundane worldĦ. Do you think living in fantasies can be more real than living in reality? In a fantastic world, the reality is shown as multidimensional beyond the binary and sophisticated images. What do you think destiny is all about?ĭestiny to me is challenging life‘s day-to-day and stepping outside yourself and comfort, to find your authentic soul, and the strengths that are unique to you as an individual, that can empower you and those around you to be better….And discover the unknown …ĥ. Destiny is a commonly used word but one that is mostly misinterpreted. From ancient times to contemporary times, much of the internalisation and socialisation is done within the family rather than outside.
